Of course, there is more to this powerful form of internet marketing than meets the eye. If you’ve never tried selling anything, it does consume a lot of effort and time to do it. Your business possibilities can change incredibly once you’ve done the tough, initial work and your own business processes are in place and working.

Ok – here’s how you can begin looking beneath the surface of this marketing powerhouse.

Make sure that all of the important parts of your message are in your text. There are plenty of people who purposely block images or code from downloading so they can try and stop spammers attacking their computers. By trying to hide the important bits of your message behind images or in code, you risk nobody ever seeing them. There are servers happy to label emails containing too much code or showing too many images as being spam, so you risk your mailing list receiving nothing from you at all. Some bad advice floating around is that you must conceal particular words that you may want to include in your subject lines in order to for them to make it through spam filters. Almost all of the time this only becomes an issue for those people who promote shady products or are involved in unethical practices. Spammers are known to use misspellings in their subject lines to trick the spam filter; do you want to be seen as a spammer? How many times have you trashed an e-mail because the subject line looked shady?

Try not to send out too many emails. There are some who believe they need to send messages out every single day, or at least every other day. We say that this is overkill. Coming up with that many original e-mails is difficult and time consuming. Besides, if your mailing list get used to receiving emails from you daily that always try to sell them seomthing, they’re more likely to delete them unread. Your mailing list could become so annoyed with being bothered by constant emails that they turn off completely. Think of over-emailing as the internet marketing equivalent to a pushy salesperson hassling you endlessly to buy something to the point that you eventually get completely turned off and walk away.

If you develop a good relationship with your list, they’ll prove to be a captive audience – willing to read your words and respond to your sales messages. Your odds for online success can be significantly increased with this marketing method. Long ago it was proven that it’s a whole lot easier to sell to people who are pre-sold and “warm” than those who are not in that category. Only very advanced forms of marketing and advertising can out-produce the power of email marketing, but it’s still a close race though. E-mail marketing is how most internet marketers earn most of their money.

Should you have found Internet marketing confusing, particularly in regard to how it can be beneficial for you, then you probably are missing one of the most crucial steps for your success, list building. Have you tried to build a list but very few, if anyone at all, joined? This is a common occurrence. That’s because building a solid list takes a good deal of time and effort. During the process it’s easy to make mistakes, which might look simple but on the long run they can prove fatal to your online marketing career. You need to remember that developing a targeted subscriber base is the foundation to all your other marketing efforts. Try not to get caught up in the money making hype found online. Simply construct an amenable list of subscribers who trust you and will purchase whatever it is that you are selling. In this article we will be focusing on such mistakes that people make when they venture into email list building.’  Lists are so important.  I am building one right now for a client, Dr. Kim, and it is growing quickly.

Many marketers are confused about one question – how often is it okay to mail your email list? It’s easy for this one error to snowball downhill into many problems if your are not careful. ”Should I send an email every day, or limit them to about one per week?” Like I said, you need to strike a balance between mailing them often enough so that they don’t forget you and blame you for spam, and not mailing them too much to an extent that they get annoyed. In essence, the frequency of your mailings should be dictated by the content which you are sending. If you are providing information which they find useful, you should not receive complaints regardless of the frequency of your mailings. You may develop a trust with them, building more credibility on a particular topic than your competition. On the other hand, if you mail them once a month, then they may just forget you, as simple as that. But still keep in mind that being moderate is always the best route. Although people may be very interested, once-a-day emails can still get monotonous. Limiting your emails to about two or three per week is generally best.

Another common mistake budding internet marketers make is sending emails promoting their business of list to people who aren’t even subscribed to that list. There is absolutely no justification for such marketing acts as these people might report you for spam.

Be painstakingly obvious when presenting your identity and contact information in your promotional emails. Anonymous marketing emails get ignored easily and will not serve any purpose. You should have your address, phone number and preferably any other important information that needs to go. Apart from this, you need to put in all efforts to make sure that your email doesn’t look like spam. The subject line is the first potential red flag to the recipient; take extreme care not to insert words that will appear as spam.

Don’t forget what a prominent place list building retains in your business; if you give it the weight it deserves, it will reward you in the end. By steering clear of these regular errors, and making good decisions going in the right direction, you are well on your way to success!

Email campaigns are effective ways to promote services and products regardless of the industry involved, and in view of the on-going economic slump they are becoming even more important. It is important to note however that as with other types of marketing, email marketing has strengths and weaknesses, advantages and disadvantages. Correctly used free email marketing enhances online credibility, reputation and sales. When casually or incorrectly done it can literally obliterate any relationships with clients.

Some of the pros of free email campaigns are: Email campaigns are relatively hassle free as their primary aim is to craft an email that will grab clients’ attention. Compared to many other methods of advertising email campaigns organized within a fixed budget can be cost effective. Immediately after the emails have been sent it is possible to gauge their success by the number of emails or other responses returned. Relationships, which can reach beyond email sales, may result in long term relationships. A global reach is possible with email campaigns as people from around the world are targeted. Emails can improve understandings regarding what clients expect of the product and the seller. Alterations in the design or content of the campaign can be made at anytime. Campaigns can be developed based on the likes and dislikes of the targeted receivers.

Some of the cons of free email campaigns are: Email lists take time to get up to speed, thus the opt-in list will take time to grow. It may be difficult for those who receive the campaign emails to distinguish them from spam. There may be more problems as the size of the opt-in list increases. There is no assurance that even a great marketing email will be delivered to the inboxes of clients.

It may be hard to meet each email publication deadline. Coming up with different content for each campaign can be difficult.

Smart email marketers enjoy a number of email marketers’ pros which include but are not limited to: Freedom to do whatever is right for them in the moment which gives them lots of options Freedom to experiment and learn. Once the basics are learned online emailing seems easy. When things are working well and are automated, time becomes exponential and more money is made at an increasing pace.

When a design goes well it brings an experience of incredible pleasure.

Auto responders are now available making email marketing both easier and more efficient because the marketer just types one message, clicks submit and it is sent to every name on his or her list. A subscriber to an email mailing list can be worth several thousand of dollars in future revenues so it important to quickly learn how to be a professional at email marketing and enjoy all ts pros.

List building is probably the most essential part of any online business, if it’s successful. Many new marketers won’t bother building a list because they believe they should get sales first.

It does make sense to go after straight sales when you haven’t made any money yet. But as you will find out. it will slow your businesses growth quite dramatically.

If a new affiliate marketer is going after sales only, they are sending all their hard earned traffic straight to the affiliate program owner’s website. This way maybe 1 in 100 hits sent will convert and they will earn a commission (depending on the conversion rate of the offer).

The smarter way to do it is to send all their hard earned traffic to a lead capture page or squeeze page, getting the prospects email address and only then sending them on to the affiliate website which they’re promoting.

Now, out of every 100 visitors you will get around 10-25 email address in your auto responder and again depending on your capture page’s conversion rate, this can be as high as 50 out of every 100 visitors giving you their email address.

Now by getting these people’s email addresses rather than just sending them straight to the offer, you have leveraged your traffic. Now you can email them over and over with related affiliate offers. Further, now they are on your list they know who you are, with good content in your auto responder series, they will also like and trust your opinion. People who know and trust you are far more likely to be responsive to your affiliate recommendations.

These aren’t by any means the only reasons why you should build your list first before sending your traffic to an affiliate offer.

One of the biggest reasons you should set up your affiliate marketing business in a list building first type fashion, is because when it comes to doing joint ventures and ad swapping, the size of your list is what determines how much leverage you have to get lucrative joint venture deals and ad swaps with. Joint ventures and ad swapping are by far two of the fastest ways to build your affiliate marketing business. Any marketer that knows 2 bob worth can tell you that.

Therefore, it is in your upmost best interest to build this valuable asset, ‘your list’, right from day one. Don’t think I can build a list later, your business will suffer. List building will set you free.

Finding the best methods to sell can seem quite complicated when you first start out in internet marketing. One has so many ways available to them to make money via the internet! Many internet marketers end up choosing marketing via e-mail as the best method for them. This is due to the fact that it is more difficult to drive random traffic to a website and try to sell to them versus selling to people who are interested in what you have to say. There are definitely multiple strategies you can use when marketing through email. You can find some strategies you can adopt to increase the effectiveness of your e-mail marketing campaigns below.

Where possible, try to include all of the relevant parts of your message in text. Consider how many people try to block images or coding within emails these days to try and avoid spammers or hackers. If you put the most important parts of your message in images or hidden in code, your recipients might never see them! In fact, if you use too much code or too many images your messages might automatically get labeled as spam and your recipients might not know that you’ve sent anything at all!

You must offer an easy method for people to leave your email list. You probably don’t want to think about people asking to not hear from you. It is probably the last thing you want when you are working in internet marketing. Still, you want to give people an easy way to opt out. By offering an easy way for them to opt out of your list, you will preserve your reputation! The easier it is for people to opt-out, the more likely they will be to come back to your list in the future. Consider how you would prefer to be treated if you decide to change providers or cancel your current phone service. Would you prefer it to be speedy and easy or would you prefer to have to go through a complicated process?

Avoid coming across like you’re writing a sales letter and be more informal and relaxed. This includes using your recipients name at least once, usually at the beginning of the letter. You don’t want to use it too many times, though – don’t over do it. Using it too often will come across as insincere, perhaps. Just think of how you would address a good friend, and use a little sense about it.

If you develop a good relationship with your list, they’ll prove to be a captive audience – willing to read your words and respond to your sales messages. This is a powerful tool for any internet marketer and almost always leads to certain success. The fact is that you are more likely to make the sale when you are selling to people who want to hear from you. Website sales and advertising only go so far. The wealthiest internet marketers all used the incredible leveraging power of email marketing to build their fortunes.

Direct Mailing Lists

Direct mail is a perfect means of marketing your business. If you combine all the other attempts at marketing that you’ve made, you may even grow your business more than that with direct mail. When a business only markets online, it is thought to be less believable and less dependable than one that incorporates direct mail marketing. For whatever reason, many normally confident internet marketers are actually scared of undertaking a direct mail campaign, though. This is because direct mail costs money. It is also because direct mail looks like it is difficult to create. You should understand the following information about direct mail.

One way you can send people to your business either online or offline is by providing great deals or offering coupons for your products and services. It’s also a great idea to send out promotional codes or coupon codes so you can see exactly how well your marketing campaign is going. When you send out your direct mail pieces, make sure that each piece offers the recipient a special deal if they enter a certain code (contained in the mail piece of course) into your website. It’s possible to bring in hundreds, perhaps thousands of dollars in net sales simply by adding a 10% discount code and your website’s address on a postcard.

Work your way up. Direct Mail costs money. It doesn’t help that stamp prices are rising each year, either. This is why you should start with a target market and send out just a couple of dozen direct mail pieces and then measure the response. Keep doing this until you get a good response from one of your mailings. Once that happens you can increase the size and scope of your mailings to include more recipients. After all, you may get to the level where you’re shipping thousands of direct mail items! But the important thing is that you should not get started sending letters out in the hundreds. Even if you are sure that you have the absolute greatest product, you will incur substantial cost if you take on a massive mailing campaign. Try out first, then expand later.

The more simple the direct mail piece, the better. Keep the mailing to one page in length, and don’t add fancy inserts and graphics. A plain postcard or simple letter is far better than an elaborate flyer. The fancier the mailing, the less likely it is to quickly grab the customer’s attention.

Simply let your future customers know your services. Then they can get back to their duties. There is definitely validity to the single page rule, which states that if you cannot properly convey a message in a single page, then your message is overly complex. There are monetary reasons for keeping the length of your direct mail to a minimum as well, as longer mail will be heavier. And, naturally, the more it weighs the more it will cost to mail it.

You shouldn’t be intimidated by direct mail at all. It might seem a little intimidating if you are used to doing all of your work online. However, if you want to reach the largest target audience possible with your marketing efforts, your will need to be willing to go after the targets that do not operate online.

What better way to show people who you are and exactly what you are offering to them that sending them some direct mail? Since there are still many people who aren’t tech savvy, direct mail will go over very well with them. There are many other people who only stay online for a few minutes at a time. Direct mail can surprise you when it brings you more sales than you are used to seeing.

Email marketing has become one of the most advanced and effective forms of marketing available to people who are looking to make money online, especially those who are able to get free leads.

For this reason, there are now many companies and individuals using email marketing to attract and convert people into their business and/or downline.

So if you have a network marketing business and a decent collection of MLM leads, email marketing is one of the most effective methods to promote your business and automatically place your marketing message in front of a large number of people using autoresponders and tracking tools to keep you up-to-date on the results.

You can use the free network marketing leads you have obtained and set up any number of variations on your message, cross-promoting various products, offering free downloads and using other marketing techniques to turn your best free leads into participants in your business.

There are three tips you can use with your email marketing that you can implement to improve your results.

The first one is that the content of your emails should be clear, concise and simple to understand, so people will know exactly what you are offering. That way, it will be much easier for the prospect to comprehend exactly what you want them to know and do. Keep your message friendly, simple, informative and valuable and you will find a good response.

The next tip is the importance of capturing and keeping the interest of your prospect of your email message.

People are quite busy and receive lots of emails. If your message fails to provoke and retain interest, they will stop reading it and may stop reading your other emails also. Therefore your message should be designed in an attractive and appealing manner, so that your prospect will be intrigued to finish reading your message to the end. By the end of the email the prospect should either be totally equipped to make a decision or much better informed about your products and/or services.

The third tip is again in regards to the fact that people are very busy in their daily routines and don’t have a lot of time to read emails.

That is the reason one of the best things to do is ensure the email marketing you send is brief and to the point. If it is not brief enough, prospects will not be interested and will likely stop listening to your message.

So when doing your email marketing, you can use these straightforward tips to help your efforts and profit from this amazing marketing technique that is helping people and companies make money online, and is very useful if they have free network marketing leads.

You read a lot about how email list building is important.I say that statement is Wrong.I would say that it is not important, but more than that, it is crucial to your success. You will also be working harder not smarter without building your list.Lets look at some proven strategies used by most successful marketers.

Perhaps you don’t realize the importance  of building your lists, in which case you are probably a newbie or don’t realize how most internet marketers make their fortunes.

Maybe you are just too busy running your business and working your butt off trying to keep your business profitable etc., or if you think that email list building is hard, complicated or expensive, so you didn’t do the crucial thing you needed to do. List building is much easier than you think.

There are  many tools and resources available out there on the internet that can make your email list building task relatively easy, inexpensive and even fun. Just like in most endeavours, there is a right way and a wrong way to do something and building your lists included. Also I am sure you are aware how much garbage is out there on the internet, so it’s hard to know who to beleive and what information to accept as truthful, up to date and/or complete.

Whatever your niche market happens to be, in fact even if your business is primarily offline, you need to focus on building your email lists for the following reasons.

One, by making it possible for your visitors and potential customers to leave their info in the optin box you are not leaving money on the table or bleeding traffic and you are starting to build a relationship with them therby being able to send them your sales offers in the near and distant future.

There is a proven way to capture your visitors names and email addresses and establish this relationship but I don’t have room for that here. The best way is to offer them something of great value or to help them solve their problem. This can be a free subscription, newsletter, ebook, report or something else of value to them which you offer to send them via email if they leave their name and email address.

The right way to establish a relationship with your list, once you capture their names and email addresses, is to continue to send them useful and helpful information. The more value you give to them the more trust and respect you will get and they will become to see you as a friend and guess who they will rather buy from, a stranger or a friend.Sorry no prizes for a correct answer there.

A good reason to concentrate on your email list building is that you will make it much easier on yourself by freeing yourself from the hard work of promoting your business and expenses associated with it, like advertising costs. Whereas by having an email list of your own you can send out an offer to all your list by a click of a mouse, which will cost you next to nothing except some time to write your email and offer.

As long as your sales offer is of value to your list and you don’t abuse this ability to reach your list by bombarding your list with constant sales offers without providing value in return, those people on your list will buy from you time and time again and stay on your list.

Now that you know, if you did not already know, how crucial email list building is to your success, go and put your efforts into learning how to build your lists as soon as possible.

Email Marketing Opt In List Building Tips Off line business owners and Internet business owners are both using email marketing opt in list building. The reason is that it is a profitable way to market products online to customers who agree to receive email.

This is what makes a list an opt in one. People agree to receive email which is different than sending out spam emails.

With this type of email marketing business owners have the right to contact their subscribers whenever they want. The key is offering helpful information a person would want to continue to receive.

If at anytime a person doesn’t want to receive emails any longer they can unsubscribe from your mailing list. This is as easy as clicking a link at the bottom of each message being sent.

People have short memories online today. They may be surfing around and subscribe to a list and within a couple of hours forget they have even done it.

For this reason opt in email marketing is critical. This requires your subscriber to not only fill out a short form, but also to confirm their intentions by clicking a link to their email list.

This is good for both the Internet business owner as well as a subscriber. Internet businesses do not want to have subscribers on their list that don’t want to be there. By confirming their intentions they agreed to receive email from you.

The larger your opt in list becomes the more profitable it can be to you. This is a very quick way to market products as opposed to some of the old fashioned marketing methods.

For example direct mail is something some business owners still do because it does work. However that can be quite costly and generally you will not send out a piece of direct mail out to anyone more than a handful of times a year.

The only real cost you have with email marketing is the cost of your autoresponder. Of course you do have the cost of building your list initially and continuing to add new subscribers to it.

Building a list can be done on blogs and websites. It can also be done by promoting splash pages in various ways throughout the Internet.

Enticing a person to give you their name and email address is a skill. However if you are providing something of value in return for that person’s contact information it becomes a fair trade off.

These opt in email marketing list building tips can have an impact on your future business. Having a list to send email to is an asset that many Internet marketers cannot place a value on.

Using a Combination of Marketing Techniques When you are laying out your marketing plan, you need to decide whether or not to do your marketing online, off-line, or to use a combination of both. Regardless, most business owners are aware that a single marketing strategy will seldom be as effective as multiple marketing strategies. While it certainly is not necessary to implement a lot of marketing strategies, combining two worthwhile strategies can help you achieve your business goals. If you combine e-mail marketing with another single type of marketing, it will allow you to create a multi-tiered strategy that is not that difficult to manage.

Many businesses currently find great success with e-mail marketing.

This does not necessarily mean that they should avoid other online marketing techniques including having a website, participating in other message boards that are relevant to the industry, utilizing online banner advertisement, affiliate marketing campaigns, etc. In fact, it is well known fact that not every marketing strategy will be effective for every business. It sometimes takes trial and error to find out which ones work best for your business.

Some businesses find that e-mail marketing campaigns work extremely well with more traditional marketing methods. In fact, radio and television advertising as well as traditional print media can often enhance e-mail marketing efforts. If you have elected to use both on and off-line marketing methods, a combination of traditional media and e-mail marketing can be very effective. In spite of the popularity of the Internet, there are many people who still resist using the Internet for either purchasing or researching products.

Some businesses have elected to combine e-mail marketing with banner advertisements as well as message board participation. Each of these simple activities are all online, they can create a powerful Internet presence. E-mails can be designed to provide your audience with useful information regarding your products or services. Banner advertisements can be placed on your website and may be of interest to your possible clients. Those businesses who elect to participate in industry specific message boards have found that they are able to establish themselves as credible sources far more quickly.

One of the advantages of having a multifaceted marketing campaign is branding. It is important to remember that potential clients do not always currently need the product or service that you are offering. However, pursuing an aggressive marketing strategy keep your name in front of them, and keeps your brand in the public eye.

When combining multiple marketing strategies, you have to remember that it may not always be easy to evaluate their effectiveness. It is often wise to implement various marketing strategies so they are not running concurrently. By focusing in on one type of strategy at a time, you can track increases in sales or traffic to that particular strategy.

In order to allow you to determine which strategy produces the best effect, changes should not be made to an individual strategy until you understand exactly what effect it has on sales and traffic.

From time to time, you may in fact notice that certain marketing strategies have a detrimental effect.

If any reason you are unable to determine which marketing strategy is working, you may want to consider creating a customer survey.

Surveys can help determine how somebody found out about the product or service that you are offering. They can also provide you valuable insight to how people found your service, decided on your service, and what they think about your service.

A solid marketing plan is required to help any business grow. The more well thought out your marketing plan is, the more likely you are to have success in your business.

How a Newsletter can Improve your Business Newsletters can be a very cost effective marketing tool, that can have a positive impact on your bottom line. Not only will newsletters not negatively impact your marketing budget, they also do not necessarily require a lot of man hours, and they can greatly increase your sales and profits.

Newsletters allow you to inform your current customers about any changes in your products or services. In addition, newsletters can be used to attract new customers, provide “inside information”

about what is going on with your company, and in general, reminding subscribers that you are around, and that you have great deals on your products or services.

You newsletter should always show your upper-level of expertise and knowledge. Oftentimes, those who receive your newsletter may share it with friends, family, or colleagues. This greatly expand your potential customer base. If you do not currently have a newsletter, then you may want to think about the benefits of publishing one.

This cost effective marketing tool could provide you with long-term benefits. Here are some things that you should consider before publishing a newsletter.

A) The content that you provide in your newsletter should must be related to your business. It is important to remember, that your customers are looking at you as an expert in your field. If you stray too much from your field via your newsletter, you could ultimately wind up costing yourself customers. Not only may you alienate existing customers, you are not likely to attract new ones.

B) Your newsletter must be well written, and professional. The information contained in your newsletter must be of value to your readers. In addition to providing information, your articles should be checked for spelling and grammatical errors. Remember, you are supposed to be the expert here. You are staking your reputation each time you send out a newsletter.

C) Fact checking your newsletter is important. Do not try to “fudge” facts and figures since it is your reputation that is on the line. When appropriate, provide valid sources of information.

The last thing you want to do, is to lose the trust of the readers of your newsletter.

D) Whenever possible, the information that you provide should be current. It could be tempting to provide “stale” news, you will quickly lose readers if they cannot depend on you for fresh content. Simply rehashing the same information over and over will not help gain new readers, and it will not encourage your readers to visit your website or make a purchase.

E) If you feel that you will not be able to easily create a newsletter, you can always hire someone to do it. While there are many websites that offer “free” articles, be sure of any limitations that may apply. The last thing you want to happen is to be in violation of copyrighted materials whether it is an article or a photograph.

Summary

A newsletter can be a powerful marketing tool both for existing clients and for gaining new clients. A newsletter can take some time and some thought to put together. If you have the possibility to create a compelling newsletter that can potentially drive sales, it may be worth your time.

You want to send email to a list of 10 to 10’000 recipients.

The fundamental question is: Should you purchase software that you can install on your computer and send the mails from there or should you use an online services instead? Both methods can be called “Auto-responder Software“, but the operational differences are quite significant. I will explain what to look for:

Deliverability

I bet that you would like your emails to reach the recipients… ;-) This is a huge criteria when picking an auto-responder software. If you install a software on your computer, you are using your Internet connection and your provider to dispatch your mails. Depending on the software it will use the providers mail server (smtp server) exactly the same way as Outlook does or it will have its own smtp server built in, in which case it will use the computer as the mail server. If the computer is used as the smtp server, mail will very likely only reach part of the recipients, because spam filters will recognize the non public nature of your “mail server” and simply refuse acceptance. If the software forwards mails to your provider’s mail server, you will likely reach the provider’s limit for sending out mails very quickly. Because providers want to avoid that their clients send spam, the number of mails that can be sent within a certain period of time can be quite low (50 or 100 mails per day).

If on the other hand you are using a auto-responder software service and that service is doing a good job, then you can count on the largest possible deliverability rate, because that is how these services can distinguish themselves.

Sending Spam

Using your own auto-responder software installed on your computer, you can – within the restrictions mentioned -  send anything you like (also spam). If you do send spam you will very likely be caught rather quickly and either the smtp server will be blocked for you or even the Internet connection. The reason for that is that the provider simply does not want to be considered accepting spam coming from his network.

Using the hosted service you will not be allowed to send spam at all. The restrictions and online tests are quite rigorous. If you send spam you will get caught and banned from the service.

Functions

Both types of auto-responder software can provide a host of functions such as:

  • using templates for graphical html mails
  • automatic conversion in text mails
  • managing users (adding, editing, sorting, selecting)
  • creating mailings where newsletter and recipient get combined
  • personalized content (where names and other information gets pasted into the text of the mail)
  • creating follow up campaigns (automated dispatch of series of mails in predefined time intervals)

There is a bias towards hosted auto-responder services for these tasks, as the server has more direct access to the information

  • tracking (statistics as to the performance of mailings)
  • bounce management (what happens to mails that don’t reach the recipient)

Cost

Locally installable auto-responder software is usually sold as a licence for a number of computers or servers. The upfront amount is charged only once.

Hosted server side autoresponders charge a monthly fee that varies with the number of contacts you are holding in their data base.

Speed

A hosted service takes the message and mixes in the recipients data (mail address, etc.). Once you have initiated the task, it is out of your hands and out of your computer. The server sends the mails into the Internet directly. Delivery is much faster than when dispatched from your computer, which has to send each mail individually through a relatively slow upstream to your provider.

Gathering contact information

To efficiently do that you need a webform that you place on your website or squeeze page. A subscriber fills in the form and gets stored in the data base. If you use a hosted service the webform can interact with the service directly and trigger responses instantly. Working with an autoresponder software from your computer requires your computer to be on to react. The setup of your own network is also much more complicated as it requires often times dynamic DNS settings (much more complicated than using the hosted autoresponder.)

Conclusion

If you want to be a serious Internet Marketer you will have to pick a hosted Autoresponder Software, anything else is not really an alternative.

Our Suggestions for Autoresponders

Email marketing, list building, marketing to a squeeze page to build a permission based list…

These are all terms online marketers are constantly confronted with. Let me explain here for the beginning Internet marketer what the deal is with “Permission Email Marketing”.

What is Permission Email Marketing?

In short: it is the chicken that lays golden eggs!! Email marketing has been around for over 10 years. When people started to notice that it is lucrative to send mails around and selling something, email marketing got out of hands very quickly. The term “spam” was borne and spam mails were hated as much as the unappetizing fleshy equivalent locked in cans. But we know all that.

So next came asking the recipients whether they would like to receive someone’s spam. And if they answered “yes” it was no longer spam but permission based email! Now, combine permission based email with selling something and you arrive at permission email marketing.

Since sending mails to people who actually want to receive your information is very lucrative, building a permission based email marketing list is what every one in the Internet marketing arena tries to do.

There is  a multitude of courses that teach you exactly how to go about building your own list step by step, so I will not go into details here, but lay out the general concept and explain why it works.

Why does Permission Email Marketing work?

Bcause email has become the most widely used form of communication. While we are very quick to delete mail, we are also prepared to consider non spam messages and integrate them in our work process. So if you happen to be on some-one’s good side he will open your mail and give you a chance to make a fool out of yourself… ;-)

Now imagine you have impressed your recipient before, let’s say because you have given him something for free, or have surprised him with really good information, he is very likely to listen to you again.

Further imagine you have delivered again in your next email and now he really pays attention to what you are sending him. He clearly wants to get what you have to offer him.

Now, once in a while send him an offer that benefits you both: let’s say about a product that he probably will find useful. If he decides to purchase it, you will make a commission. Because he trusts you your chances of landing a sale have hugely increased.

But all of this is only possible if you have permission to send emails.

What’s on the other side of the spectrum?

Well, that would be spamming! It is illegal in most countries. It clogs the Internet, eats the bandwidth and storage capacities of companies and is probably the largest known time waster of modern times.

Still, there is so much spam out there, that you have to conclude, it is worth doing. There are business models that work on the basis of the large numbers. Spammers send their mails in millions to purchasable mailing lists. The organizations distributing spam are usually illegal and base their “services” on cracked servers that have been taken over by using malware like Trojans and viruses. These zombies receive part of the load and willingly spread the junk to everywhere in the world.

People hate spam. And if they catch you sending it, they hate you. They will never open a mail from you again. And spam filters all over the world will block you from sending mail again. You, your company and your products lose their reputation and in the eyes of the Internet you could as well be dead.

You probably derived from my wording that I am a vivid promoter of white hat, permission based email marketing and do not subscribe to any other email marketing technique.

So What Do You Need to Get Started?

There are basically just three things you need to start your own permission email marketing campaign:

  1. A website with a squeeze page to collect subscriber email addresses. For a complete beginners’ guide on how to do this, get our free e-book “Create your first website by 3:45″, a 125 page thorough tutorial written by Chris Farrell.
  2. An auto responder to track your contacts and let you send your messages. Find a short description about the two auto responders that we recommend with our Worth It! quality label
  3. e-mail messages delivering valuable information and the product sales’ links. The monetization of your list, once you have one is described in Chris Farrell’s e-book (see #1 above). There are also many tutorials on that subject some of which we are going to review.

If you have any questions, post them here, so my answers can benefit many.

  1. Establish yourself as a trusted expert. People search online for information and will look to you, as a subject matter expert, to provide it to them. Every week (or whatever schedule works) provides an opportunity to build on this, while reinforcing your brand.
  2. Build a relationship with the people on your list. It’s common knowledge that people like to buy from people they like. By using ezines to connect with readers in their homes, you can develop a relationship of familiarity and trust. Be sure to share a little about yourself or your company in every issue, whether it is an anecdote, event, or employee spotlight.
  3. Keep in touch with prospects and clients. Consideration should be given to eventually developing two ezines: one for prospects and one for clients, as each require different information. This is a great way to notify your readers of weekly specials or upcoming product launches, offer new articles or customer stories, and provide links (or urls) to updated FAQs, blogs and splash pages.
  4. Drive traffic to your website or blog. As noted in #3, remember to call attention to new blog posts or other changes to your website with links directly to those pages. Remind readers of your online newsletter archives. Promote special sales (maybe with discount coupon codes only for subscribers) with a link to the sales page. Use links to turn your ezines and newsletters into “silent salespersons”– driving traffic to your website and building your lists around the clock.
  5. Build content on your website. Make a habit to adding your ezines and newsletters to your website in an archive area. This serves a several important purposes:
    • Visitors can read an issue or two to determine if your ezine will be of interest to them, which could help to increase sign-ups and potential sales.
    • If you optimize your article placements, you will not only make your website “meatier”, but you’ll also bring new traffic from the search engines.
  6. Get feedback from your readers. Make it easy for you to stay in touch with prospects and customers and vice versa. Ask them to take action and comment on your articles and offers. Conduct polls and surveys. Start a “Letters to the Editor” column in your ezine. Feedback allows you to fine tune your messages, target your marketing, and expand your product line. It’s also great for relationship building!
  7. Develop an information product. If you deliver your newsletter once a week and include two articles, at the end of a year you’ll have 104 well-researched articles in your portfolio! Pick the best-of-the-best and turn them into a bonus ebook for opting-in to your list, submit to download sites to build your list, or sell in PDF-format!
  8. Grow your mailing list. Let your ezine subscribers work for you. Be sure to remind your readers that it’s okay to forward your newsletter to anyone they’d like. In addition, it’s important to include sign-up instructions for those who received your ezine from viral marketing methods. A simple line titled, “Get Your Own Copy of XXXXXX”, with a link to your squeeze or opt-in page is all it takes!
  9. Gather demographic data. By offering surveys, feedback forms, and niche reports, you’ll be able to get valuable information about your prospects and customers. Learn what makes your readers tick, how to better serve them, and how to give them what they want. Make sure they become repeat customers!
  10. Save money! All of the above benefits of publishing an ezine are free or almost free. The small cost of a top-rated ezine publishing system is nothing compared to the cost of brochures, business cards, advertising, direct mail, pay-per-click or other means of promotion. Not only that, but someone has to manage that production! Because your newsletter is delivered online, you can grow your list to be as large as you want without worrying about the expense. Bottom line − it’s proven that email marketing is the most cost-effective marketing solution for companies just like yours!

Email marketing can be profitable for any business, no matter what kind of product or service you offer. It is significantly cheaper than other advertising methods and, if done right, helps build loyalty and trust with customers. As a result, you generate more sales and more profits!

The foundation for successful email marketing is a targeted, permission-based email list. Marketers call contact lists their “goldmine” because it can generate much of their sales revenue. If you’ve built up a list of opt-in subscribers that are qualified and interested in what you have to offer, then you’ve completed the first step and are on your way. Now it’s time to “mine” for gold!

Below you’ll find several list-building and retention ideas that will help you get the best results from all your email marketing activities:

  1. Provide useful, relevant content. Your visitors will not give you their email addresses just because they can subscribe to your newsletter free of charge. You have to provide unique and valuable information that will be of interest or use to them.
  2. Add a subscription form to every page on your website. Make sure it stands out so it is easy to find. If it doesn’t look cluttered, you may want to include more than one on some pages. For instance, if your opt-in form always appears in the top-left corner of your site, you may want to add one at the end of your most popular articles.
  3. Add subscription forms to your social media pages. Make sure that you don’t waste this valuable source of revenue opportunities. Integrate your sign-up forms with Facebook and more!
  4. Make it easy for readers to sign up. The more information you request, the fewer people will opt-in. In most cases, a name and an email address should suffice. If it’s not necessary, don’t include it here. You can always survey them once they’re customers! We do recommend that you provide a link to your Privacy Policy however.
  5. Publish a Privacy Policy. Let your readers know that they can be confident you will not share their information with others. The easiest way to do this is to set up a Privacy Policy web page and provide the link to it below your opt-in form. (Note: If you don’t have one, put the words “privacy policy generator” into a search engine and you should be able to find a suitable form to use.)
  6. Provide samples of your newsletters and Ezines. This lets potential subscribers review your materials before they sign up to determine if it’s something they’d be interested in.
  7. Archive past newsletters and articles. An online library of past newsletters and articles is both appealing and useful to visitors and builds your credibility as an authority. In addition, if your articles are written with good SEO techniques in mind, they can increase traffic to your website through enhanced search engine positioning.
  8. Give gifts subscribers can actually use. Offer an opt-in bonus for joining your subscriber list! Write an ebook or provide a PDF business report, or even hire a programmer to create downloadable or web-based software. But don’t limit yourself to offering gifts to opt-ins. Give them out when your readers fill out a survey, provide a testimonial, success story, or a great product idea. Let them know when they can expect the next gift offer. Everyone likes to get something for free! And if you pass out “goodies” throughout the year, your subscribers will feel truly appreciated − and that’s good for business!
  9. Ask your subscribers to pass it on. Word of mouth is a powerful viral technique that works great with email marketing. If your subscribers find your content interesting, amusing or informative, they’ll probably share it with their friends. This can be a great source of new customers, so make sure to remind them to “pass it on”.
  10. Let others reprint your newsletter as long as the content is not modified. If you’re happy to share your content with the universe, then why not! Many webmasters and newsletter publishers are actively looking for high-quality content and, if they reprint your newsletter, you’ll get new subscribers, and more traffic and links pointing to your site.
  11. Include a “Sign Up” button in your newsletter. If you’re using plain text instead of HTML, be sure to provide a text link to your subscription page. You may feel that this is not required because the subscriber is already on your list, but remember that readers will forward your newsletters to others, or reprint them online. Make it easy for them to subscribe!
  12. Add a squeeze page. A squeeze page has one goal − to acquire opt-ins and build your list. Think of it as a mini-sales letter to go along with your subscription or opt-in gift. It should feature a strong headline and a couple of powerful benefits that should make subscribers salivate to sign up! Once created, use a service such as WordTracker to find hundreds of targeted keywords, and promote your offer using pay-per-click advertising from Google, MSN and Yahoo. Now that should make a splash!
  13. Include testimonials on your squeeze page. This is crucial. Put one or two strong testimonials from satisfied customers on your squeeze page. This can be in any format, but you may find that multimedia (audio or video) is more “believable” and inspires more people to action. To further enhance believability, get permission to use actual customer names, locations and/or urls (Don’t use “Bob K, FL”). Add a note inviting others to participate. After all, it’s free publicity!
  14. Blog religiously. Blogging is a great way to communicate with prospects and potential customers, and creates a nice synergy with your email marketing. Be sure to include your newsletter sign-up form on each page of your blog. You can start a free blog at Blogger or WordPress.
  15. Post on other blogs. Post thoughtful comments and information on similar blogs with a link to your squeeze or opt-in pages. Also comment on others’ blogs through trackbacks. In most cases, your comments will be posted on their blogs with a link back to your site. This is an easy way to generate new traffic and subscribers, and get your brand out there!
